Our Story & Vision

History in Kenmore Square

Hotel Commonwealth was originally conceived as part of an urban renewal project undertaken by Boston University and, in 2003, the property was built from the ground up with reverence to the surrounding architecture. Though the hotel was later sold by Boston University, we maintain close ties with nods to our collegiate history throughout the property, from books adorning every nook, to our Terrier Signature Suite. Today, Hotel Commonwealth proudly stands at the intersection of Kenmore Square’s nightlife, dining, and entertainment scene in Boston.

 

 

Renovation & Growth

In 2015, Hotel Commonwealth underwent a significant renovation to bring it into its final iteration, adding over 12,000 square feet of event space and 96 luxurious modern guestrooms and suites. This project marked the completion of a huge overhaul of nearly every corner of the hotel, including the lobby, meeting spaces, and the addition of several signature themed suites. Designed to reflect the personality of Kenmore with a modern interpretation, this is where the spirit of Boston comes to life.

We are proud to celebrate the culture and history of Boston, and nowhere is that more obvious than in our signature suites. The Rathskeller Suite pays homage to the rock-and-roll roots of the iconic underground music venue “The Rat”,  while Boston University school pride is on full display in the Terrier Suite. And, of course, our Fenway Park Suite gives you unrivaled views of the Green Monster. Along with the Baseball Suite, these two rooms immerse you in the spirit of America’s favorite pastime. Sustainable Practices for a Greener Future

Hotel Commonwealth is committed to minimizing our impact on the environment both on a local and global level and works closely with industry leaders in sustainability like BioGreen360, PATH Water Bottles, Save That Stuff, and Clean the World Global, along with implementing targeted building systems upgrades, Since 2023, we’ve been able to divert more than 17 tons of food waste, significantly reduced our energy consumption and reliance on plastic products, and are proud to now offer zero waste events in Boston.

Chef Kevin Bowdidge brings over a decade of corporate culinary experience and training to his role as Executive Chef at Hotel Commonwealth. Long before joining The Walsh Hospitality Group, Bowdidge grew up in Stoneham, MA, where he was always drawn to helping in the kitchen. After attending college, he decided to pursue his love for cooking further by attending the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Professional Chefs Program in Cambridge, MA. Upon graduation, Bowdidge landed his first professional culinary role as Sous Chef at Boston Cafe and Catering in Woburn MA. He was responsible for assisting the Head Chef in daily operations such as prepping and preparing dishes, overseeing and cooking outside catering events and managing the staff to ensure and enforce safety and company standards, and eventually rose the ranks to take over as Head Event Chef. He then went on to work as Chef and Manager of Rita’s Catering in Waltham Massachusetts from 2014 to 2016 and became Corporate Executive Chef in 2019. In this role, Bowdidge oversaw multiple chef managers and staff as well as developed weekly specials for ten corporate cafes- providing him with invaluable experience that he would draw on for his next role at Walsh Hospitality Group’s Hotel Commonwealth. As Executive Chef at Hotel Commonwealth, Bowdidge oversees all culinary programming and planning for the hotel. He is passionate about fostering team development and is committed to drawing on his past experience and successes to further elevate each and every guest’s culinary experience to ensure that it is a memorable, and delicious, one.

Ken is a seasoned hotelier with leadership experience across luxury and lifestyle hotels throughout Boston, Miami, and other key U.S. markets. As Commercial Director, he oversees sales, marketing, and revenue strategy — combining creative vision with data-driven insight to deliver growth, strengthen brand positioning, and inspire high-performing teams. Ken believes great results come from great teams. Over the years, he’s worked alongside talented colleagues to enhance guest experiences, guide commercial strategy, and support the growth of both independent and branded hotels. His approach centers on collaboration, community, and creating lasting impressions. A graduate of the UMass Amherst and Boston Latin School. He’s a die-hard Celtics fan, a collector of 80s and 90s vinyl, and happiest under the sun on the beaches of Aruba.

With a career that spans both residential and commercial construction, Matt bring a hands-on, solutions-oriented approach to engineering and facilities management. In 2018, Matt began his hospitality career as an Engineering Supervisor. Through dedication, and a focus on team leadership, he steadily advanced, ultimately earning the role of Director of Engineering. Matt joined the Hotel Commonwealth team in August 2025 and leads engineering operations with a focus on safety, guest satisfaction, and long-term asset preservation. Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, hanging out with his dog Sophie, and following Formula 1 racing.

Nickie brings extensive experience in hotel catering and events from time spent working with InterConinental, Mandarin, Langham, and Waldorf brands, just to name a few. Having spent time in New York, Seattle, and Pasadena, Nickie – a UMass grad – had most recently been running the catering operation at the Liberty before joining Hotel Commonwealth. Nickie’s passion for getting to “work” while constantly talking food and wine (her passions) are what drew her to the industry and has fueled her drive to pursue her continued roles in hospitality.

With a professional foundation in guest experience and a love for new challenges, Kaitlyn has spent over 15 years in hospitality, developing a deep understanding of both food and beverage operations and hotel sales. After spending a decade in food and beverage—including four years as General Manager of a well-known tavern in Beacon Hill—Kaitlyn transitioned into the hotel sector, beginning at the Boston Park Plaza as a Sales Coordinator and advancing through small and large group sales roles. Kaitlyn joined Hotel Commonwealth in 2025 to broaden her expertise and continue learning every facet of the hospitality industry. Kaitlyn’s approach is grounded in a lifelong appreciation for hotels and exploring new destinations, and a genuine passion for connecting people through memorable experiences.

Jackie began her career in hospitality in 2019 as a Front Desk Agent at the Courtyard Boston Downtown/North Station. With a passion for people and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, she transitioned into sales as a Sales Manager in 2023, focusing on group rooms and catering in Boston’s vibrant North End neighborhood. She joined the Hotel Commonwealth team in September 2025 as a Group Sales Manager, driven by a curiosity to expand her knowledge and develop new skills in a dynamic part of the city near Fenway Park. With an eagerness to grow and a dedication to building strong client relationships, Jackie continues to apply her skills in an ever-evolving hospitality landscape. Outside of work, Jackie enjoys traveling, staying active, exploring new restaurants in Boston, and supporting the city’s sports team – she is a true Bostonian!

Clay has been with Hotel Commonwealth for 6 ½ years as a Reservations Agent, and recently transitioned into her new role as Conference Services Manager. Clay is passionate about providing the very best service for her clients and customers, and enjoys working on her hair oil business, spending time with family and friends, traveling the world and hunting for new adventures when not supporting in-house programs and guests.

Julia brings more than 20 years of hospitality experience, having built her career in Food and Beverage Operations before transitioning into her role as Conference Services Manager. Her experience at the Boston Park Plaza and Hotel AKA Back Bay has equipped her with a strong foundation in both large-scale operations and luxury service, allowing her to thoughtfully tailor each event to the guest’s vision. A classically trained artist, Julia holds a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Pratt Institute of Art, and she is excited to bring her distinctive blend of artistry, operational expertise, and hospitality to Hotel Commonwealth.

Omri was born in London and also grew up in Paris, Tel Aviv, Athens, and Vienna. He began his hospitality journey in New York in 2015, where he learned the ropes as a Front Desk Agent at the Casablanca Hotel in Times Square, and the Frederick Hotel – TriBeCa, before moving abroad to Ireland for a year. There he worked as Reception Supervisor at the Alex Hotel in Dublin, before returning to the US and settling in Boston. He joined the Hotel Commonwealth team in May 2022 and, after a brief stint as Assistant Front Office Manager, he transitioned into the sales department first as a coordinator, and now an onsite Sales & Marketing Services Manager. Omri handles all social media accounts associated with the hotel, plans and executes marketing initiatives, and also acts as office administrator. Omri is also an avid illustrator and makes extra money drawing people’s Dungeons and Dragons characters!
